Description
This is a portion of the engineering and environmental protection marvel known as the Linn Cove Viaduct. It is in the Grandfather Mountain area of Western North Carolina and was the last piece of the Blue Ridge Parkway to be constructed. Completed in 1983, at a cost of almost $10 million, the Linn Cove Viaduct is 1,243 feet long and contains 153 segments weighing 50 tons each. When the Viaduct opened for traffic it completed the Blue Ridge Parkway project that had been ongoing for 48 years.
